This opportunity presents an ideal post for doctors committed to a career in general surgery with a wide range of potential skill development. Day to day work will cover both elective & emergency aspects of service with regular on call timetable as outlined in the job description.Our supportive & friendly environment has proven track record in supporting individual career development and although not a training post, doctors may be assigned a clinical supervisor who will provide support and mentoring.The Trust is committed to the educational development and candidates will have access to study leave, exposure to clinics, theatres, teaching & have the opportunities to undertake auditand quality improvement work.Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team working within General/Colorectal Surgery. The post, including on call commitment, is based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary with some sessions at Westmorland General Hospital & a valid driving license is advantageous.The post holder will be expected to support the General Surgery services offered by the Trust and provide the highest quality care to the local population. The post holder will be supported by their Consultant with ward support provided by the FY1 Drs, FY2 Drs, CT level Drs, specialist nurse practitioners. The administrative burden will be supported by a named secretary and waiting-list coordinator. Upon taking up the post the post-holder will be offered a consultant mentor.About UsWe operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery.   • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • MRCS or an equivalent appropriate higher surgical qualification
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Relevant higher degree (Masters, Doctorate)
  • Membership of relevant professional societies
ExperienceEssential
  • Significant experience inline with current T&C’s on the person specification
  • Evidence of experience of quality improvement programmes
  • Evidence of completion of audits
Desirable
  • Experience in Laparoscopic Surgery
