An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Learning Support Assistant (Communication & Interaction) to join the Primary Phase Team at William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS). WHGS is a well-established 3-18 Academy and is the most over-subscribed school in Greater Manchester with a long and distinguished history. It has a very inclusive and diverse community with over 40 languages spoken and our school is truly representative of Manchester’s rich multi-cultural heritage.? The school has over 1500 students in total (480 in the Primary Phase) and approximately 200 members of staff (circa 50 in the Primary Phase).The Primary Phase of William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) is one of the most over-subscribed primary schools in Manchester. The position is full time, term-time only.
Please note, this is a full time, term time only role, and the salary has been pro rata’d accordingly. The actual salary will be from £14,780 - £16,329 per annum.
You will have experience of working with SEND children, particularly communication and interaction difficulties. You must be patient, caring, supportive and willing to work with a committed staff team. The ability to work and communicate well with parents is essential for this post.
Reporting to the Primary Phase Headteacher and SENDCO/Director of Inclusion, the duties will include:
Having an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the needs of all the pupils on the SEND register under the communication and interaction area of need.
Building and maintaining successful relationships with students, treating them consistently, with respect and consideration.
Liaising with teachers, TAs and LSAs who work with pupils within this area of need to ensure the correct support is put in place.
Ensuring Quality First teaching strategies are in place for pupils within this area of need and support teachers with this process.
Monitoring the Assess, Plan, Do, Review process for these pupils and any interventions put in place.
Tracking and monitoring pupils under the social, emotional and mental health area of need and analysing the impact of support in place, providing regular updates to the SENDCO.
Working with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
You will have:
Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or higher
At least 3 years’ experience in supporting children’s learning within the area of SEND
Good numeracy and literacy skills
The ability to communicate well with colleagues and parents
The ability to work well within a supportive teamwork structure
The ability to take direction but be prepared to take initiative when required
Creativity and imagination showing an ability to adapt teaching styles to the needs of pupils
Sound ICT skills
