Software Engineer - Full Software Development LifecycleAre you a skilled Software Engineer passionate about problem-solving and developing robust software solutions? Join our team at Atlas Elektronik UK and apply your expertise across the software development lifecycle.We are currently seeking a Software Engineer to join our team at Atlas Elektronik UK located in Dorset Innovation Park, Winfrith. As a Software Engineer, you will apply your software engineering approach to undertake all tasks within the software development lifecycle. This opportunity has become available as we continue to innovate and deliver cutting-edge solutions for the Royal Navy and global customers.As a Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to support or lead software development projects. You will apply your knowledge and understanding of software engineering principles to solve complex problems and critically review results and methods to ensure quality. Your role will involve working on various domain areas, including maritime combat systems, command and control systems, network design, acoustics/sonar, RF communications, autonomy, AI, machine learning, and data management. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with experts and non-experts, including delivering presentations and writing technical reports.Key Responsibilities
  • Apply a software engineering approach to all tasks within the software development lifecycle
  • Support or lead software development projects
  • Utilize knowledge and understanding of software engineering principles
  • Solve complex problems and critically review results and methods for quality assurance
  • Expand knowledge into new domain areas and work across domains
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the design and development of software systems
  • Participate in requirements management and system design using UML/Enterprise Architect
  • Conduct unit testing and utilize tools such as JUnit/CppUnit
  • Design and develop human-machine interfaces (HMI)
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Toolset, network protocols, and databases
  • Ideally, have an understanding of military systems, particularly maritime systems
  • Desirable experience in software safety (DEF STAN 00-56 & IEC 61508 or equivalent)
Key Skills And Qualifications
  • Proven ability to support or lead software developments
  • Degree or equivalent level of education in software engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge and understanding of software engineering principles
  • Familiarity with open systems architectures and principles
  • Experience with software engineering lifecycle processes and tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ideally, have experience in one or more of the following domain areas: maritime combat systems, command and control systems, network design, acoustics/sonar, RF communications, autonomy, AI, machine learning, data management, engagement modeling, software safety
  • Primary software/system skills in Java/JavaFX/NetBeans or C++/Visual Studio
  • Familiarity with requirements management (DOORS experience desirable), UML/Enterprise Architect, unit testing, HMI design and development, Atlassian Toolset, network protocols, databases, ISO 9001, and TickIT plus standards
