Software Engineer

Southampton, Hampshire / Home (Flexible Hybrid Model)

Cirium(part of the LexisNexis Risk Solutions group) is looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Air Ops team located in Southampton. This team builds, maintains and operates Aviation data processing systems that acquire, normalize, and interpret a variety of data, from many sources, which ultimately builds the most complete, accurate, and timely flight data in the world. The right candidate will display a positive, collaborative, team-oriented attitude, will be hard-wired for quality engineering, be passionate about data, and will have a solid foundation in object-oriented coding skills. Responsibilities:

  • Design, write, test, deploy and support production-ready containerised Java/Spring microservices.
  • Collaborate as part of a team to convert customer and product requirements into working software
  • Troubleshoot and support the team’s existing products, while working toward team priorities.
  • Actively support our deployment infrastructure by understanding and working with technologies such as AWS, GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Be an active member of the technical team, contribute ideas and insight in daily standups and design sessions, ask questions, review code, analyse bugs and fixes, and help users and teammates.
  • Participate in an out of hours on-call rotation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years Software Development experience in modern programming languages and maintenance of large codebases. We mostly use Javaand Spring.
  • .
  • Experience of building quality and maintainability into the code and for test strategies and techniques.
  • Experience with Software Development processes in an Agile environment.

Experience with some or all of the following would be especially valuable:

  • Data modelling and schema design.
  • Relational Database Management Systems and SQL.
  • Knowledge of Linux and familiarity with command-line tools.
  • Working with cloud services.
  • Building & running high-volume data processing pipelines.
  • Developing scalable containerized systems.
  • Troubleshooting performance, capacity, concurrency or scalability issues.
  • TDD, continuous integration and unit testing frameworks.
