Job Title: Simulation Specialist

Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 (Depending on Experience)

Location : Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Benefits: 25 days annual leave,

Up to 18% base salary bonus (subject to Company performance)

The Position

We are currently seeking a established Simulation Specialist to join the newly formed Advanced Power Products Team focused on designing, developing and validating a range of battery pack and systems for a variety of Caterpillar and 3rd Party applications.

The successful candidate will serve as a highly experienced contributor and technical coach on projects and assignments that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across multiple business units both in the UK and US.

Job Responsibilities And Duties

As a Simulation Specialist in the team you will be involved in the development and validation of complete 3-D battery models incorporating electro-chemistry and thermal effects, derived from fundamental cell data, test results and understanding of battery design and assembly. These models will be used to help design the battery packs and systems, evaluate control system strategies, and applied within complete machine or sub-system models. You will be expected to:
  • Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in your discipline
  • Define and document new simulation methods and processes to enable standard work
  • Perform complex analysis work, identify and solve problems
  • Deliver Technical solutions to cost and time
  • Keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies in the related field
  • Communicate tailored technical information to internal and external customers, team members, and suppliers
  • Develop and maintain a keen understanding of internal and external customers’ needs
Candidates will demonstrate the following skills and experience through previous roles :
  • Accredited Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in a relevant engineering subject - i.e. Engineering, Computer Science - plus demonstrated industrial experience in applying Simulation
  • A passion to further grow and share your simulation skills within a friendly, interactive and innovative engineering team
Self-starter With Problem Solving And Strong Analytical Skills, Specifically
  • Strong ANSYS experience in support of battery modelling (cell, modules and packs)
  • Deep understanding of battery modelling fundamentals – e.g. equivalent circuit electro-chemical models, cell design and construction
  • Ability to develop 3D models from the ground up, with a pragmatic approach to modelling assumptions to meet validation and delivery targets
  • Develop simulation processes for improving the models for future use
  • Ability to develop 3D simulation scenarios; correlate 3D simulations to 1D models and/or hand calculations to check assumptions/methods; setup/run/report on simulations and document processes and results
