The Position

In this role, you will be an advocate for end users in mid to late-stage device and digital health development projects. You will be responsible for planning and scoping the right usability activities to ensure the users’ perspectives are brought into the product development and that authority requirements are met.

Amongst other tasks, you will be:

  • Conducting usability evaluations, preferably both formative and summative. You will be responsible for study setup design, coordination, execution, analysis, and reporting. ·
  • Closely collaborating with key stakeholders, such as project managers, risk managers, systems engineers, and clinical & external vendors
  • Executing usability evaluations using your interpersonal skills, as you will be interacting directly with a diverse user population as a moderator/interviewer
  • Reporting usability evaluations
  • Required to present study results to key stakeholders with diverse professional backgrounds. Being responsible for documentation in the design control phases also means that you will be required to write usability reports of very high quality.

In this role, you will report to the Team Leader of Usability Engineering, who is also a Usability Engineer in education and training. As part of a talented and growing team, it is expected that you will also be part of optimizing our research process and activities on an ongoing basis. Approximately 10-20 days of travel a year is expected in relation to executing usability tests. The role is fully remote. The initial contract is for one year, with the potential of extending it.


Qualifications

You have experience in usability engineering in medical devices, and a relevant degree, e.g., in Human Factors Engineering, Design Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar discipline. Furthermore:

  • You are independent and self-driven. Although the team is cohesion-minded, the role is remote, hence you will spend most of the working day in your own company
  • You have solid experience in designing, executing, data documenting, and reporting in usability studies with a variety of user groups
  • You take pride in your thorough data-collection efforts, analysis, and written reporting of these in high quality
  • You carry refined skills in creating thorough designs of usability evaluations, based on the projects’ needs, and an analysis of the medial device user interface
  • You also have experience with international usability standards and guidance, interacting with governing authorities, and working with software as a medical device

Fluency in the English language, both oral and written, is crucialfor this role.


About the Department

Devices and Delivery Solutions (DDS) consists of more than 300 colleagues who work dedicated to designing and developing innovative medical devices, digital health products, and digital therapeutic solutions for our patients. Only by considering what is valuable from a patient perspective do we help people live their lives to the fullest. We are currently looking for an experienced Usability Engineer for the User Research and Insights department, who plays a critical role in the development of future devices and digital health solutions by researching and representing future users throughout the development process.

You will join our Usability Engineering team consisting of 9 skilled usability professionals, who enjoy having a collaborative approach when setting direction within the field of usability. You get the opportunity to join a diverse and high-performing department with a variety of backgrounds within e.g., Design, Social Science, and Engineering. We use our differences to create novel user research findings and insights to ensure user-centric products.
