The New Art Gallery Walsall is one of the leading visual arts venues in the West Midlands. Situated in the heart of Walsall town centre, the Gallery is a busy and vibrant building with an exciting programme of contemporary art exhibitions and collections displays, lively education events, an artist studio, library, café, and shop. As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, the Gallery hosts acclaimed exhibitions from contemporary artists within its world-class 600m2 floor 3 exhibition space, and our bespoke collections galleries provide a home to the renowned Garman Ryan collection. The Gallery provides a truly unique place for its visitors to experience, learn from, and participate in the visual arts.
We’re looking to appoint a conscientious, resourceful, hands-on, and dedicated Senior Technician to support our technical and programme teams in delivery of exhibitions and displays and your duties will include:
- Assisting in the planning, delivery and management of exhibition installations, collections displays, events and other projects.
- Working alongside artists, curators and other technical staff to install exhibitions and displays.
- Helping to schedule and supervise Freelance Technicians, as required, to facilitate delivery of the artistic programme.
- Supporting in the care of works from our collections, through the preparation of objects ready for loan, exhibition, storage and transport.
- Contributing to the upkeep and supervision of technical equipment, workshop space, and associated materials.
To be successful, you’ll have substantial experience in a relevant field, with a keen interest in the visual arts, and an understanding of the practicalities involved in delivery of a public exhibition programme. A creative problem solver, with solid communication skills - a practical understanding of object handling, design and construction techniques, and experience of project management are also a must.
