The Technical Operations, Resources and Services group is seeking to appoint a Senior Technical Specialist to the Sport and Exercise Science Team.
The Sport and Exercise Science team supports a wide portfolio of research, ranging from piloting health promotion initiatives and promoting active lifestyles, to improving elite sports performance. The team also supports both UG and PG courses delivered by the Academy of Sport and Physical Activity. The main activity of this role is to provide high-quality technical support for research and commercial clients at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, and support a diverse range of other activities for the University.
You will have a comprehensive knowledge of physical activity and human movement, alongside technical expertise in the operation of the associated equipment. You will have an understanding of research methods and the data collection and analysis methods that may be employed in the area and understand the potential applications of these to help drive the utilisation of specialist equipment and spaces. Some experience of working in a healthcare innovation environment would be ideal.
You will be educated to BSc or above in a relevant subject and/or have substantial relevant experience in a sport, health or active lifestyle research environment. The role requires a positive proactive approach and self motivation, showing initiative and creativity to solve problems as they arise.
With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will carry out training & demonstrations of equipment operation to relevant parties as required, producing training guides, and other relevant documentation to aid this. Finally, having experience in bringing new equipment and processes into effect would be advantageous, e.g., scoping, procurement, commissioning (including due diligence of H&S considerations), training, etc.
It is expected that you will occasionally be involved with technical teams from other areas of the Service and will assist with the work loading of assistant technicians in the area. Some flexibility towards working hours is required to support teaching and open days and evenings.
