The role is based in Northamptonshire, in the town of Rushden. The Rushden site is a centre of excellence for Radiolabelled Sciences incorporating both Metabolism (which includes Clinical Metabolism, Pre-clinical ADME, In vitro and DDI services, Large Molecule Metabolism, Environmental Fate, Plant Metabolism and Metabolite Identification) in addition to Chemistry (which includes API and IMP manufacture). The position we are seeking to fill is for a Senior Technical Specialist, Metabolite Identification to bring their expertise in High Resolution Mass Spectrometry to identify metabolites generated in studies for new product development.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have responsibilities for:

  • Bringing expertise in structure elucidation.
  • Conducting analytical and metabolite identification work for both regulatory and non‑regulatory In Vitro, In Vivo, Clinical, Large Molecule (Biological) and Environmental-Fate studies to successfully fulfil all the requirements of a study to the timelines stated in the Study Plan/Analytical Work Plan, under direction of the Study Director or Analytical Project Manager.
  • Being responsible for the development of LC‑MS/MS chromatographic methods within the group and act as an expert consultant on the development of chromatographic methods within the wider Metabolism Department.
  • Developing technical training materials and maintaining of laboratory work standards.
  • Mentoring of new Technical Specialists and other senior laboratory staff in their area.
  • Providing technical advice to Study Directors/Management at all points in the study life cycle.
  • Holding equipment/software/lab space responsibilities on behalf of their team.
  • Actively contributing to client visits and teleconference as appropriate.
  • Responsible for conducting of the appropriate experimental work required to successfully fulfil all the requirements of a study to the timelines stated in the Study Plan, under direction of the Study Director.
  • Work with Study Director on client communication, contributing scientifically to client discussions, as appropriate.
  • Initiating and maintaining an active role in the implementation of new service-level procedures as required, enhancing the service offerings of Pharmaron.
  • Interpreting the relevant data and prepare accurate scientific study updates and study report sections.
  • Leading implementation of continuous improvement culture in specialist area proposing process improvement/new service offering initiatives to the Metabolism leadership team.
  • Keep up to date with technical developments in specialist area recommending new techniques and working with management to compile justification for Capex projects.

Qualification

  • PhD, MSc or BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related subject

Requirements:

  • Experience in metabolite identification in a CRO or Pharmaceutical/Agrochemical company.
  • Experience in chromatographic method development
  • Experience of working in a GLP facility
  • Expert in use of High Resolution Mass Spectrometers e.g. Waters Vion, Thermo QExactive
  • Expert in use of relevant software e.g. Xcalibur, Waters UNIFY, Compound Discoverer
  • Knowledge of metabolism/metabolic reactions
  • LC-MS/MS data interpretation skills
  • Coaching & Mentoring
  • Project Management
  • Scientific data interpretation, reporting and presentation skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present scientific findings to colleagues and clients
