Summary

To deliver technical solutions, in high risk environments, employing modern technology and sensitive tactics, in order to develop intelligence and acquire evidence which contributes to cutting serious and organised crime affecting the UK.

In the Intelligence Directorate we collect, record and enhance intelligence to build a picture of that SOC, sharing this with partners in the UK and abroad. Then, through the exploitation of intelligence, we flex law enforcement’s collective resources against these dynamic threats.

We are continuously looking for new opportunities to enhance traditional capabilities to increase the quantity and quality of available intelligence and maximise its potential for exploitation.

Job description

You will have an extensive background in this area of Technical Operations either in UK Law Enforcement, Military or UKIC.

Intelligence Collection - coordinates NCA collection capabilities against the Agency’s highest priorities. Intelligence Collection includes forensics, open source, covert human intelligence sources, undercover officers and technical collection capabilities.

Responsibilities

The role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Install technical surveillance solutions on complex intrusive surveillance operations in the UK and overseas.

  • Responsible for developing innovative, lawfully audacious technical capabilities which enable the delivery of covert technical surveillance activity against agreed tactical and strategic objectives.

  • Prepare and deliver oral and written briefings in support of operational deployments and provide regular written and oral feedback to operational and intelligence partners in response to operational deployments.

  • Support technical and technological research activity, in consultation with law enforcement community partners and the commercial sector.

  • Proactively maintain a high degree of awareness around technological innovations, ensuring the Agency maintains cutting edge technical surveillance capabilities.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

  • HND/NHC in Electronics, Engineering or equivalent Level 4 technical qualification with relevant experience.
  • College of Policing Accreditation in Technical operations skillset (i.e. deploying technical surveillance equipment) or an equivalent accreditation with other bodies such as Law Enforcement Agencies, MOD or Services Agency.

Technical skills

  • Technical skill set covering video, audio, tracking, IT and subsequent transmission of acquired product.
  • Detailed knowledge of operational technical planning, associated legislation and risk assessment.
  • Experience in deploying Technical Surveillance equipment on authorised Intrusive Surveillance operations.
  • Experience of working with the following disciplines: electronics, telecommunications systems, IP network management, Radio Frequency principles, satellite positioning technology, audio and visual capture and rebroadcast.

As part of the recruitment process, there will be two rounds within the interview process. The first round will be an external aptitude test including assessment on mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness. Full details of this test will be sent to shortlisted candidates. Results of this aptitude test will determine whether candidates go through to interview.
