Senior Surface Engineer / Contract Opportunity / Outside of IR35 / Towcester Job Title – Senior Surface Engineer – Surfacing capabilities Reports to – Head of Surfacing and Capabilities Primary Relationships - Head of Surfacing and Capabilities, Deputy Chief Aerodynamicist, Head of Model Aero Processes, Head of Business System Length – 6 month contract Rate – Negotiable based on experience About An enticing 6-month contract has arisen to work for one of the most reputable Formula 1 teams in the world. With the summer build round the corner, the business is now looking to bring in a skilled Senior Surface Engineer who ideally has experience working for a leading Formula 1 team. Key Responsibilities
  • Working in close partnership with Aerodynamicists, you will be responsible for overseeing the creation of high quality, robust and fully legal wetted surfaces within the Aerodynamic Design Department. This will consist of new concepts and modifying existing models according to the department’s methodologies and best practices.
  • Responsible for maintaining and documenting working guidelines and methodologies for surface models.
  • To engage in creative and conceptual thinking, as well as regulation exploitation and exploration. To encourage and nurture these core values for all those that partake in 3D surface creation.
  • To track and feedback key performance metrics related to department surfacing output.
  • To dedicate a proportional, albeit smaller amount of time, towards agreed Surfacing capabilities canvassed with the development group. Subsequently advancing these tools in conjunction with Business system/CAE group. Skills and Knowledge Required
  • An open and flexible approach to be able to react to the variable nature of Aerodynamic development.
  • Be a strong communicator and be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding which will assist with the delivery of conceptual parametric CAD surface designs.
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to be highly creative with a dynamic and original approach to problem solving and have a strong drive for attention to detail.
  • Possess an excellent working knowledge of FIA technical specifications ensuring legality and compliance.
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Model Aero Design Workflow
  • Previous experience as a Senior Surfacer in a Formula One environment
  • Be educated to degree level or higher in relevant discipline
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills and provide sufficient flexibility to ensure that all Surfacers are able to value their personal contribution and achievements.
