Senior Software Engineer

Summary of Job
In this role you will join the team operating our highly available contextual categorization service. Using advanced information retrieval technology, to feed data directly into a global delivery architecture, supporting millions of requests per second to deliver billions of unique insights to our customers.

Working in a DevOps environment, you will operate this business-critical service whilst working on new features and improvements to our information retrieval and natural language processing service. The right candidate will have a high degree of commitment to service ownership and thrive in taking responsibility for their own work.

• Take an active role in delivering production service operations.
• Take responsibility for building solutions to our customers’ problems.
• Pair with team members to produce high quality software.
• Review the work of others and offer constructive feedback.
• Support and mentor more junior team members.
• Perform an active role in team planning, review and retrospective events.
• Work with colleagues to define systems architecture and approach.
• There is a requirement in this role to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota.

What You’ll Bring

• Proficiency with Java and/or C++. Experience using Go Lang, Python, PHP would be an advantage.
• Familiar with designing RESTful APIs, and web services
• Experience using containerized applications and orchestration.
• Confident using Linux and scripting.
• Been part of a team operating cloud infrastructure at scale.
• Awareness of software security and its application to system development.
• Passion to drive quality, in your own and your colleagues’ work.
Familiar working in an agile software development environment.
