Job Purpose

Engineering systems within National Grid IT solution engineering provides solution engineering and agile-at-scale software delivery for asset management and geospatial applications/GIS. The Tech Lead & Senior Software engineer for GIS/geospatial platform will be responsible for providing technical leadership to the National Grid IT geospatial projects working in an agile team under the supervision of the solution engineering manager and the resources from various offshore/onsite delivery/SI partners and be technically accountable for engineering and design aspects of several projects and programmes in the geospatial platform/GIS application area from initiation to completion that deliver business change and subsequent benefits. As a key member of the project delivery/agile release trains, the team is expected to leverage the expertise and technical depth of knowledge in GIS area to successfully execute projects.

About The Job

The senior software engineer for geospatial platform will provide the software engineering leadership, facilitation, analysis and design tasks required for the development of National Grid’s GIS platform and integration with other products where GIS is consumed as part of a composite service. The senior software engineer for geospatial platform will also create deliverables that help develop target-state software artefacts (reusable standards, guidelines, individual parts and configurations) for evolving the applications across the National Grid application estate, in order to enable business strategy and deliver targeted business outcomes. The senior software engineer for geospatial platform will facilitate and orchestrate the delivery of targeted business outcomes through technical leadership in a project or across multiple projects.

About You
  • Demonstrated experience of leading GIS projects in an agile delivery environment as tech lead working with software engineers, scrum masters and product owners supporting the successful execution of the project/projects
  • Subject-matter expert of geospatial platforms like ESRI ArcGIS, geospatial domain particularly in utilities, transportation or manufacturing sectors, emerging technologies like geospatial and temporal analytics, appreciation of AI/ML, IoT as applied in the geospatial domain particularly for utilities sector
  • Experience of supporting agile delivery at scale and optimisation of projects/programmes aligned to the SAFe framework
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions with engineering team members, other architects, and the GIS product owners and resolve conflicts. Proven ability to engage with wider stakeholders, external OEM and SI delivery partners and other stakeholders in a constructive and collaborative relationship
  • Good working experience of onsite/offshore, leading remote teams, provide software engineerural governance, and serve as a technical coach and mentor for more junior members of the team.
  • Passionate for geospatial technologies and abreast of current and emerging geospatial technologies and platforms
Qulaification

Educated to at least a degree level in engineering, computing or a relevant discipline or, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Desirable: Agile certified (SAFe), technical background in ESRI GIS platform

A competitive salary between £44,000– 52,000, dependent on capability
