Main Scope Of Role

Be responsible for independent design and execution of research experiments in support of our client programmes, as such the candidate will have experience in a number of assay/screening methodologies and platforms, spanning a broad range of target classes. You will have the ability to identify and establish techniques and methodologies to support progression of our projects. This individual will likely supervise lab scientists but especially whilst the team is growing, be expected to lead from the bench.

Key Responsibilities
  • Will be recognised in-house as an SME in assay development and execution across different platforms and target classes
  • Will design screening cascades and contribute to work packages in support of partnered programmes and be able to identify methods and develop procedures to support new assignments
  • Will likely supervise and be expected to coach and mentor more junior personnel
  • Implements new and modifies current testing procedures to improve quality of data, troubleshoots
  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses, communicates results within the research group, at meetings and with customers where appropriate
  • Maintains substantial knowledge of current principles and theories in the assay development and screening field and applies this knowledge to future programs
  • Is expected to contribute to scientific publications, posters and scientific conferences, will be expected to participate in customer meetings when required

Personal Profile
  • Scientific expert in assay development, validation, implementation, QC etc.
  • Experience of drug discovery in an industry setting; Demonstrable hands-on contributions to support
  • for medicinal chemistry (and/or biologics development) and the preclinical progression of assets across a number of drug discovery programs
  • Evidence of program support up to preclinical candidate nomination, contribution to translational biology and biomarker strategies
  • Able to identify and critically review innovative methodologies and technologies and to implement
  • them where relevant
  • Evidence of lab, team and/or project leadership
  • At ease working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

Education & Experience
  • BSc in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology or closely-related subject
  • PhD in a related area, heavy emphasis on in vitro methodologies
  • Experience developing and running in vitro assays as part of drug discovery programs
