The role

We are seeking to appoint a talented qualitative/social science researcher with an interest in public health, Hepatitis C Virus. The postholder will join the successful NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Behavioural Science and Evaluation (HPRU BSE), based at the University of Bristol 5* Population Health Sciences, Bristol Medical School.

The appointed researcher will primarily work on the Evaluating the Population Impact of Hepatitis Direct Acting Antiviral Treatment as Prevention for People Who Inject Drugs (EPIToPe) study. The post holder will primarily be responsible for conducting the qualitative evaluation of a community-based Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) treatment which will entail recruiting, data collection and analysis of interviews.

The post is for 50% FTE (17.5 hours a week) with funding available until July 2024.

What will you be doing?

The appointed researcher will primarily work on the Evaluating the Population Impact of Hepatitis Direct Acting Antiviral Treatment as Prevention for People Who Inject Drugs (EPIToPe) study. The post holder will primarily be responsible for conducting the qualitative evaluation of a community-based Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) treatment which will entail recruiting, data collection and analysis of interviews. They will be responsible for presenting collected data and findings in suitable formats and keeping clear and systematic records of data and writing up research reports and peer-reviewed publications as required. They will also be expected to present research data and findings to team members and other audiences (e.g., conferences as appropriate).

You should apply if

  • You will have a strong background in qualitative methods applied to health services research, ideally within the context of public health, Hepatitis C Virus and/or Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs).
  • You will have a higher degree in social sciences or a related discipline.
  • You will have experience publishing findings in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
