Job Description


We are looking for a Senior Research Analyst to join our North Sea Upstream team in Edinburgh. Our dedicated oil and gas sector teams are located around the world, and deliver research and consulting projects based on our assessment and valuation of thousands of individual assets. Together we work with a range of clients including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks and institutional investors.

The level of appointment to which band on the company banding structure will be dependent on your skills, experience and capabilities demonstrated at assessment prior to offer of employment. Part-time employment will be considered.

About the role

As part of a world-class team of oil and gas experts, you will monitor and assess key events and commercial developments in oil and gas across the North Sea, gathering and analysing industry data. You will use this to produce high-quality research in the form of thought-provoking articles, presentations and reports. You will develop a unique perspective and understanding of the oil and gas industry. You will provide analytical support for consulting engagements and will be involved in coaching and developing colleagues.

As part of our integrated and collaborative environment, you will provide analytical support to consulting engagements, support sales and work within cross-team projects

You will be adept at valuing oil and gas assets, and understand the key issues that inform that valuation. You will also form opinions on the impact of the energy transition, corporate strategies, business environment, exploration, M&A deals, petroleum economics, government energy policy and regional geopolitics.

Through your research and responding to client queries, you will strengthen your network of contacts at key companies and bodies. You will develop a unique perspective and understanding of the oil and gas industry. Your contribution to our industry-leading written reports, economic models and presentations will be valued. You will get the opportunity to travel.

Qualifications


You have upstream industry experience with a solid understanding of modelling, valuations and discounted cashflows, from years working for an oil company or a financial institution. You are comfortable collecting and interpreting data, articulating your findings in a clear and insightful manner. You will have demonstrable experience of presenting opinionated analysis to senior executives and key decision-makers and be able to quickly ascertain what’s important versus background noise. You will have first-hand experience of primary research gathering of commercial data and be confident dealing with a diverse range of international stakeholders. Over time you will build and maintain an extensive network of clients and contacts in the industry. You also have a flair for writing and creating creative visuals conveying an interesting story around data, often working to tight deadlines.

You are passionate about the broader energy industry with a strong desire to become a recognised expert sought after by clients and the press. You want to set the agenda and drive thought-provoking insights leveraging off Wood Mackenzie’s unique data analytics tools. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required.
