Position Profile: The successful applicants for these positions are expected to provide:
  • NETS with comprehensive diagnostic assessment and advanced clinical skills during neonatal and infant retrieval. The Retrieval Senior Registrar will have a team approach to provide safe, effective and well organised care and transport of patients in collaboration with medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
  • NICU, PCH with comprehensive assessment and management, including advanced neonatal skills, to inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of specialist neonatologists.
Both units provide a 24-hour / 7-day service, including after-hours (evening, night and weekend) shifts.

Area Profile

The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) treats children from around Western Australia and is committed to programs that promote lifelong health in children and adolescents. CAHS is made up of Neonatology, Community Health (CACH), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).

NETS WA is located at PCH on the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands. Senior neonatal registrars will be involved in the retrieval and transport of sick newborns from metropolitan and regional Western Australia, some of which occur over long distances, utilising the services of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. There is also the potential for involvement in retrieval and transfer of cardiac patients to the children’s hospital in Brisbane.

PCH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located on the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands. The PCH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the sole tertiary children’s hospital NICU in Western Australia. It is a 30 bedded unit which provides exposure to and involvement in the diagnosis and management of a variety of neonatal surgical and cardiac conditions, congenital anomalies along with those requiring specialist input from other departments within children’s hospital. In addition, most outborn infants who require neonatal intensive care are transferred to the PCH NICU.
