We will, however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our offices or depots around the UK.Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 depending on skills and experience + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time, 37 hours | Flexible Working options availableWhat is the Role?The Thermal & EPMI legal team works directly with the Thermal & EPM leadership team to assist them in achieving their strategic priorities. Those priorities are fixed on being a leading energy company contributing to a net zero world.SSE Thermal operates an industry-leading fleet of flexible generation and energy storage assets, with over 600 direct employees across the UK and Ireland. We believe flexible and efficient thermal energy will play a critical role in the transition to a net zero future, complementing renewable generation and maintaining security of supply. Our vision is to become the leading provider of flexible thermal energy in a net zero world. We’re already making significant progress by displacing older, less-efficient assets with cutting-edge infrastructure like our Keadby 2 Power Station in North Lincolnshire, which is expected to become the cleanest and most-efficient CCGT in Europe.However, we want to go further. We’re actively exploring opportunities in carbon capture and hydrogen technology, which we believe have the potential to decarbonise thermal generation at our sites including Keadby and Peterhead.
  • Reporting to the Head of Legal for Thermal & EPMI, you will be responsible for providing legal support to a variety of stakeholders across the Thermal business unit.
  • The role will involve acting on a variety of property matters in connection with the Thermal business including property acquisitions and disposals for our generation developments notably the opportunities in carbon capture and hydrogen technology.
  • You will comfortable with leading on key legal matters, instructing external counsel where necessary and engaging directly with senior management in Thermal, key external partners and relevant authorities.
What do I need?The successful candidate for the role will ideally have the following;
  • A lawyer qualified in England and Wales or dual qualified in Scotland and England and Wales, as a guide, circa 5+ years PQE.
  • Broad experience and detailed understanding of property matters including acquisition, disposal, option agreements, leases, licences, easements and wayleaves in the context of major development projects.
  • Willing to provide support in relation to planning and consent matters.
  • A passion to work as part of a high performing team, sharing knowledge, best practice and supporting colleagues. You will ideally have a proactive and pragmatic approach to giving legal advice and support in a clear and concise manner.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the legal and commercial issues that are pertinent to the SSE Group and the energy market.
  • Confident and resilient in their approach to their work, legal skills and knowledge; and willing to take an active role in supporting more junior members of the team.
