Contract Type – One Year Fixed Term - Full Time
Weekend Working - No
Location: Northallerton – can be home working with an expectation to work from County Hall when required.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planner to join our Growth and Heritage Team due to staff secondment for a one year fixed contract. While advertised as full time substantial part time and job share will be considered. Internal secondments will be eligible.
The role
You will be part of a multi-disciplined supportive and dynamic team working to shape the future of North Yorkshire. We are highly regarded professionals who are part of National professional bodies and debate covering Economic Development, Planning and Infrastructure and the Natural and Historic Environment.
As a Senior Policy Officer, you will be responsible for developing, monitoring and reviewing the County Council’s strategic policies, objectives and priorities in relation to spatial and strategic land use planning, marine planning and sustainable development including contributing to and leading on major infrastructure projects. You will contribute towards, and be responsible as required in the preparation, influencing, monitoring and implementation of national, regional and sub-regional policy in relation to land-use planning, infrastructure planning, and sustainable development. You will report on current issues relating to your policy areas and major projects to a range of different audiences including Executive Members of the Council.
What you will bring to the team
We are looking for someone who is passionate about planning and has detailed knowledge of the planning principles. A strong communicator who can lead big complex projects and bring people together as the role will involve working with outside agencies such as LEP, the Housing Board and NGO’s to name but a few.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Planning, Urban Design or relevant planning or land use qualification;
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues and processes relating to the preparation and implementation of town and country and marine planning policy;
- A broad understanding and awareness of housing policy, issues, processes, and organisational roles in a local authority context;
- Significant experience of planning policy formulation, regional and sub-regional planning and environmental policy;
- Experience of developing and managing work programmes;
- Experience of policy formulation, regional and sub-regional policy and environmental initiatives;
- A strong ability of decision making and analytical skills, and;
- Persuading, Influencing and Negotiating Skills.
