Full Time/ Fixed Term - 24 months (initial period is 24 months with likely extension)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced policy and public affairs manager to support the development of the Western Gateway partnership - an economic ‘powerhouse’ spanning Western England and South Wales. You will work closely with both the Chair and Director of the Western Gateway alongside political leaders, business and universities from across the region.

This post is one of 5 jobs which form the secretariat of the Western Gateway partnership, and is based in Bristol.

This is an agile post, with an expectation of travel (Covid-19 permitting) across the Western Gateway area.

We welcome secondments for these roles.

What will I be doing?

You will lead on policy and public affairs, You will build the partnership’s profile and reputation with a wide range of Government, public and business stakeholders and produce robust research and evidence, focused on the tangible benefits of acceleration of this economic geography.

What do I need to have?

You will have worked extensively in a public affairs environment, able to operate confidently at a senior level and with excellent knowledge of the wider national and devolved political environment.

You have excellent project management skills, can attract inward investment and drive forward parallel activities in governance, policy, research and stakeholder management. You are a strong influencer and will be adept at providing strategic advice to senior leaders and politicians to inform priorities and policy development.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and event management. You will have knowledge and experience of the research process including analysing economic information and data. You are able to work independently. You can coach others and you are excellent team builder.

This post is available as a secondment or as a fixed term 24 month contract, with likelihood of extension.

For permanent Bristol City Council employees, this post will be a secondment. For employees who are currently on a fixed term contract with Bristol City Council, the secondment must not extend beyond the end of the fixed term period to ensure there is a substantive post to return to. If you are currently a casual worker or a member of an employment agency (currently working with Bristol City Council) this post will be a fixed term contract.

Additional Information

This is a full time role, 37 hours per week and is available as a 24 month secondment or fixed term contract. Your working days will be Monday to Friday.
