A new and exciting vacancy for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join an established team at our Thales UK facility. An excellent opportunity to take lead within the Manufacturing Engineering Team in the implementation of Industry 4.0 (also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 4IR, I4).

The roles is based at our purpose built manufacturing facility in Crawley, is a full time position offered at 37 hours over 4 days (Mon – Thurs).

Our Opportunity

As Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will contribute to the implementation, and development of Industry 4.0 (I4) activities. Working with the team to identify opportunities for short and long term for digital transformation. Be the link between industry and our in house I4 centre to manage I4 initiatives from concept into reality.

Utilising Thales UK’s industry leading ‘Connected Reconfigurable Factory’ (COREF), you will be able to develop and test technologies in a low-risk and real-world setting. This includes, developing the connected hardware and tools to enable the factory of the future. Including areas such as cobotics (robots designed to work alongside humans), smart tooling, intelligent asset tracking and machine connectivity to develop connected flexible manufacturing cells.

What the role has to offer:

  • Digital transformation (including estimating budget/time for implementation)
  • I4 POC Industry lead
  • Lead cross functional teams
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of technologies during technology transfer or offset operations
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing lean principles in a production environment (Kaizen, Kanban, Pull Flow) - Able to link lean and digital manufacturing principles.
  • Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency
  • Optimises manufacturing documentation, tools, workflows for manufacturing and inspection based on the information supplied by upstream Industrial architects.
  • Contributes to the technological innovation to reduce costs and workflows, whilst guaranteeing the feasibility and reproducibility of the process.
About You

You will be an experienced Manufacturing Engineer, with a wealth of Industry 4.0 (I4) knowledge and practical experience of bringing digital to an industrial environment.

Attributes include:

  • Confident and well-practiced in the development of standard WoW into a digital format
  • Ability to digest data and translate for the wider team
  • Confident in promoting change and negotiating the wider understanding using data
  • Understanding of connected industrial concepts (e.g. Digital Twin, Haptic Cobotics, Augmented Human etc.)
  • Industrial experience of implementing new technologies (including change management and impact analysis).
  • The holder of the role is also expected to have the ability to communicate clearly and freely as well as to have the ability to produce high standard documentation for project and external use
