Under the direction of the Head of Transformation you will support the Trust’s Transformation & Service Improvement programmes and will be responsible for effective planning, delivery & monitoring of improvement programmes / projects sponsored & supported corporately through the Transformation & Improvement Office (TIO).

You will draw on previous experience in complex project portfolio delivery, keeping to budget and on time. You will be conversant with risk management controls and development of key success factors. Key roles and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Development of collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Provision of professional leadership & guidance to the wider trust
  • Critical analysis and interpretation of information and risks
  • Close working with Divisional and Support Services Teams, using finance/performance information to identify additional opportunity areas
  • Provision of expertise and support to Divisional and Support Services Teams
  • Assist Divisional and Support Services Teams in understanding impact of changes Trust wide
  • Ensure projects adhere to best practice and standard approaches for program & project management.
Responsible for ensuring excellent links between finance, information and Service Improvement teams, ensuring all are well informed of changes.

Main duties of the job
  • Establish and maintain relationships across a wide variety of Trust staff in order to understand and best support service improvement schemes
  • Provide delivery of service improvement projects utilising the skills of the team and the wider organisation effectively and with an emphasis on growing service improvement understanding within the Trust
  • Participate in the QSIR (Quality Service Redesign) faculty by supporting staff who have undertaken the training, as well as delivering some training (post- national training and assessment)
  • Working across organisational boundaries, representing the Trust in service improvements involving colleagues from other providers and patients and carers.

The Transformation & Improvement team (TIO) are 8 strong, and work on a variety of high profile Trust wide change programs. These can range from Organisation or process redesign, through Provider and System collaboration, cost reduction and efficiencies and digital implementation support.

The TIO team have a dedicated office on the Trust estate and also spend time working directly with Projects teams. The work can be fast paced and require rapid turnaround of deliverables, or juggling more than one opportunity simultaneously.

The Trust takes looking after is staff and welfare seriously, and in the TIO team you will get support from your fellow team members, the head of transformation, and the Senior Executives who sponsor the Projects you are working on.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Transformation and Integration
  • Becoming operationally aware, spending time with staff involved in the teams and specialties in order to gain a real sense of the service issues and view objectively what solutions are possible.
  • Providing strong, dynamic leadership and support to those involved in the nominated projects; achieved through coaching and facilitating discussions to encourage creative thinking and identify ways to drive the projects forward.
  • Using a variety of service improvement tools, influencing and negotiation skills to enable the projects to be delivered.
  • Keeping up-to-date with relevant guidance, research and evidence based practice relevant to nominated projects and improvement methodology.
  • Implementing long term strategies aligning this programme to organisational change and Trust strategic direction
1. Programme Management
  • Ensuring robust programme and project management methodology is applied to the development and implementation of all nominated projects
  • Actively participating in financial initiatives/generating income and cost improvement programmes
  • Supporting a wide range of operational teams in management of budgets to deliver CIP
  • Identifying cost improvement and income generation programmes across the Trust, leading on Trust wide projects where necessary making sure programmes and savings/income are delivered
  • Working with service managers and clinicians to identify opportunities to improve operational productivity; and to support the development and implementation of project plans
  • Ensuring that nominated projects are adhering to the Governance arrangements that are in place. This will include reporting to track progress and benefits realisation in order to provide assurance to the Trust and its Board with respect to delivery of the Improvement Plans
  • Escalating appropriately to the clinical leads and key stakeholders where projects are expected to slip against meeting key milestones or not deliver the required outcomes
  • Maintaining paperwork and documentation to the highest standard to ensure clear accountable audit trail and scrutiny
  • Effectively and efficiently managing a portfolio of projects, with experience of working in a TO environment
  • Undertaking baseline and maintains risk analysis of the projects
  • Providing support and analysis to Trust Service Development/long term strategic planning in relation to projects.
  • Informing on a range of policy implementation and service development for the Transformation Office
1. Analysis, Performance Improvement, Reporting and Presentation
  • Providing and receiving highly complex and detailed information in a confidential and professional manner. This may include delivering sensitive and/or contentious information to groups of potentially antagonistic or negative individuals
  • Supporting the collection, analysis, and synthesis of appropriate quantitative and qualitative data. Use data to establish a project baseline and then to evaluate success and benefits realisation.
  • Ensuring provision of weekly and monthly papers, reports and presentations to operational and corporate areas/teams within the Trust in a timely fashion.
  • Presenting accurate and complex information in a variety of formats using excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Managing all key project documentation, including risk logs to a high and acceptable standard.
  • Ensuring highlight reports are available to the relevant groups for formal feedback to the Divisions/Services.
  • This post requires high levels of concentration and analysis of performance data and policies.
  • The post holder must be able to balance priorities and deliver immediate response to core lines of enquiry
1. Stakeholder Engagement and Communications
  • Ensuring that project development is under pinned by absolute commitment to patient experience
  • Building and managing effective relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to the benefit of project delivery.
  • Communicating and consulting with stakeholders and members of the project teams during all phases of the projects to overcome and resolve any barriers to acceptance.
  • Co-ordinating and managing project meetings as well as larger seminars and workshops where required
  • Preparing and making formal presentations to both small and large groups for internal and external audiences.
1. Innovation and Best Practice
  • Actively seeking best practice across the Trust and externally to ensure that all projects are aspiring to the highest standards of delivery.
  • Using benchmarking, local, national and international, to drive improvement and excellence across all projects/research will therefore be a regular feature of this role using research methodology for audits designed to improve the service.
  • Role model and facilitate a culture of innovation in the teams you will be working with and ensure this is cascaded through the organisation.
  • Delivering Quality Service Improvement and Redesign training to staff across the Trust.
