Your role, and how you’ll make an impact:

This role will initially focus on a greenfield mobile-first product to cater for an unserved need of our customers. We’re searching for an experienced Engineer; either someone ready to make the move into a Senior Engineer role, or someone already operating at this level. You’ll have deep knowledge and experience of modern mobile application development in a digital product environment, and have a proven background in delivering commercial native mobile apps.

You’ll collaborate with the team to design and build beautiful features that leverage the best of native mobile capability. You’ll identify opportunities to extend and enhance Xero’s development standards.

You’ll demonstrate leadership on best practices, and be a role model and mentor for other team members. You’ll contribute to our cross-functional environment by working towards the same objectives, using modern principles and practices. You’ll be encouraged to seek clarity with technical complexities and be able to demonstrate smart ways to move forward. You’ll be able to make data-driven decisions that will release value early to solve Xero customers problems more effectively.

You, your team and tech we use:

We’ve had the luxury of choosing the latest and greatest technology to build our greenfield product and fully embraced the opportunity to bake in quality and continuous delivery practices right from the get go. You will be part of a wider global mobile team and embedded within one of our UK based pods to ensure autonomy.

We’re looking for someone who has a strong background in delivering commercial native mobile apps for consumers. You will have the opportunity to work on a greenfield mobile-first product. Our iOS app has been built entirely using Swift as the language, we create views using SwiftUI, and follow continuous delivery practices including using many modern testing techniques. Our code is in Github and we use birtise.io for our CI/CD pipelines. You’ll be passionate about software engineering, building sustainable applications, and continually improving our practices and technology. Any exposure and knowledge of Android development would be an added bonus and we also have an Android application built using Kotlin and Jetpack compose.

The wider engineering team build a microservice architecture, use domain driven design to write containerised .NET Core components, deploy to AWS using Kubernetes infrastructure and work with cloud services such as DynamoDB, SQS, SNS and more. Sounds cool to you? We’d love to hear from you!
