As a Senior Front-end Engineer you will work on building and enhancing our user facing web applications. You will work beyond applications to improve our security, testing, delivery pipelines and provide solutions to common problems. You will provide technical leadership, champion agile practices, DevOps approaches and work with other team members to translate high level requirements into epics, stories and tasks.

  • Delivering large, clean, maintainable features, resolving complex end-to-end issues and defining new approaches where applicable, to deliver valuable features to our customers
  • Leading code reviews with an emphasis on non-functional requirements and adherence to architectural principles, to ensure that we consistently deliver high-quality software to our customers
  • Using metrics to make data-driven decisions to continuously improve the team’s approaches to deployment, monitoring and operations, so that we can easily release and run performant and resilient systems in production
  • Creating automated test approaches and strategies to maintain an appropriate quality level within your team, and thus delivering solutions which work well for all our customers

How will you work?

Engineers within Group Technology work in small, cross-functional teams of testers, front-end engineers, back-end engineers, product owners, business analysts and scrum masters. The teams use agile methodologies to iteratively create shippable software, using the workflow which works best for their product.

Our engineers currently work on MacBook Pros or developer-grade Dell laptops running Linux or Windows. We provide appropriate equipment to make sure it’s possible to work from any of our offices, or from home when necessary.

  • Continuous improvement is the driver behind everything we do - we experiment, we measure, and we learn to create better products
  • Transparency, honesty and collaboration are crucial, as is the willingness to take ownership of our work.

What technology will you use?

Our web applications are built on modern technology stacks. We aren’t prescriptive on technology choices and prefer to provide autonomy to teams, giving them ability to experiment. Most of our web applications are currently built using:

Angular.io

Typescript

NGRX

Protractor / Playwright

Communication is also vital to maintaining a healthy atmosphere in our teams. Every member of the team needs to be communicative, supportive, and approachable. While we all understand the importance of having quiet, uninterrupted time, your responsibility to your team includes more than just writing code.

Simply put, if you’re someone who cares about the work that you do and the people that you work with, then you’ll fit right in.

Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Our employees have a wide range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, life assurance, 27 days’ holiday, private medical insurance, performance related bonuses, a variety of share schemes, discounts at both a huge range of high street stores and our own great products. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us.

As a company, to be one of the world’s largest Asset Managers, homebuilders, pension providers and insurances brands, we are diverse by our very nature. That means we’re committed to building an inclusive culture in L&G where we can all perform at our best, no matter who we are, what we do or where we do it. So whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever your story, we’d love to hear from you.

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? We’re aware that candidates, especially women, can be put off from applying for a job unless they tick every box, or candidates who are parents or have other caring responsibilities may not think they can achieve the flexibility they need. If this is you, we’re keen to connect; and whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not apply?
