Overview of the role

As a Senior Embedded Electronics Engineer you will participate in the full embedded electronics lifecycle, from system architecture design to component implementation and testing, for sensors, actuators and electronics we use. A key part of the role is to design electronics to integrate COTS in our vehicles, extending their capabilities, building an effective distributed system.

You will be an experienced hands-on engineer, working sometimes on complex issues with minimal supervision required. You will have a proactive working style with the ability to identify solutions. You build effective working relationships within your team but also outside your function across the business. You may have responsibility for a discrete part of a project or be working on multiple projects simultaneously, managing priorities, deliverables and multitasking as required.

You will also be a high-level performer with strong relationships and the ability to lead on discrete work packages or parts of wider projects

Responsibilities… what will you do?

You will be responsible for proactively work with others both within and outside of your immediate team to:

• Design safe and robust embedded electronic.

• Integrate COTS electronics and in-house electronics.

• Design and conduct automated testing for electronics and embedded software.

• Participate or lead peer design reviews.

• Manufacture and test PCBA and harnesses.

• Deliver respectful opinions and perspectives to help shape the future of the product.

• Able to bring people together to ensure completion of tasks.

• Role model positive behaviours and support the development of other engineers.

• Work closely with other teams to ensure efficient system integration.

• Communicate with the wider company, for example, in Company meetings.

• Create high quality documentation and updating existing documents.

• Plan and estimate complex tasks for project planning requirements.

• Ensuring industry standards and best practice are incorporated into your work and promoted in the team.

Essential skills and experience

You will have the following skills and experience levels:

• Relevant degree, such as Avionics or Electronic Engineering, or significant technical experience in aerospace avionics/electronic systems.

• Strong communications skills, both verbally and written.

• Significant hands-on, industry experience in electronics.

• Significant and proven experience designing and using digital and Industrial communication busses such as SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, CANbus.

• Experience integrating COTS electronics from different vendors designing all required electronics to make them work together, schematics and PCB design.

• Proven skills identifying and troubleshooting technical problems and quality issues.

• Proven ability to take initiative and work in a self-driven manner.

• Ability to make clear and unambiguous decisions, with strong communication skills across a range of levels.

• Ability to conduct low level, speculative research or follow structured development processes as required.

Desirable skills and experience:

• Experience in power electronics and high voltage systems

• Experience developing for satisfying standards like DO178, DO254, DO160.

• Experience working with UAVs.

• Experience on EMC testing.

• Software development is a plus.
