Senior Electromechanical Engineer, Spennymoor (UK)

Location: UK – Spennymoor, Flexible: 4 days remote, 1 day onsite

Purpose

Working with a Global Engineering team, supporting new product development across multi-brand tool categories.

In this exciting role you will be an influential team member working within a multi-functional team supporting Electrical and Electronic systems development.

Responsibilities- Design related
  • Liase and collaborate closely with both Electrical and Mechanical design functions in order to ensure robust product development.
  • Ensuring prototype testing is complete and reviewed prior to tooling sign off
  • Ensure that proposed platforms are effective and reliable
  • Ensure that Electrical considerations are incorporated into the Mechanical design process with particular focus on wiring and manufacturing considerations.
  • Ensure that component costs are competitive and provide an ongoing identification of cost reduction and product improvement opportunities
Responsibilities- Program related
  • Work closely with the Product Manager and other team members to ensure that end user needs identified through research are satisfied by the delivery of innovative design solutions
  • Lead Product Development Team in confirming Marketing Critical to Customers and Critical to Quality attributes to allow generation of the product specification, evaluating and resolving safety and quality issues, competitive product analysis and testing requirements from a legal point of view
  • Generating initial costed BOM’s and define complexity of program and resource req’d
  • Follow SBD Milestone process and ensure all associated documentation is in place for sign off meetings
  • Presenting at tooling and bulk Technical sign offs to gain product approval for commital for tooling and mass production
  • Supporting ESL builds within Manufacturing Plants to expedite corrective actions and ensure projects are delivered on time, on cost and to a high level of quality
Responsibilities- Technical related
  • Reviewing patent applications to ensure new ideas are protected and we can design around existing patents
  • Writing detailed Product Specifications to ensure compliance during manufacture
  • Ensuring that proposed designs comply with global standards and legislation
  • To collaborate closely with our external technology partners and suppliers in the development process, from concept through to manufacture
  • Liaising with other functions, initiates, prioritizes and develops innovative new product concepts (Innovation)
Responsibilities- People related
  • Reporting to Senior Management on PDR’s / Safety Reviews and Pre-Milestone calls as required
  • Ensuring that proposed designs are acceptable to internal Safety Committee
  • Involvement in planning and execution of objectives compliant with the product milestone process and product roads
  • Presenting New Products to customers / internal personnel
Requirements
  • Minimum HNC / Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • Min. 5 years’ design experience within a relevant industry. A broad range of experience preferred in a high-volume manufacturing environment with mechanical experience and a strong knowledge of electronics.
  • Mechanical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Projects package and detailed project timings
  • Expert experience in CATIA or similar design package for 3D model development following best practices is preferred
  • Experienced in Altium designer or similar for Schematic and PCB layout process
  • Excellent knowledge of components and materials used in the design of consumer durable products
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; computer literate
  • Self-motived with a high degree of creativity and initiative
  • Lateral thinking with the ability to provide robust design solutions for high volume manufacture
  • Ability to direct and work with multi-functional teams through the product development phase
  • Occasional travel (up to 10%) might be required, once restrictions are lifted
