Job Summary

We’re looking for a talented Senior Data Architect to help us support safe, secure and thriving oceans around the world.

This role can be done mainly remotely, and you will be joining an architecture team of 13 staff who are passionate about what they do and work to DAMA standards. We will offer you the opportunity to become a Certified Data Management Professional.

You’ll be joining an Architecture practice comprising of Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects and Data Architects, reporting to the Architecture Practice Lead. The practice contains people with various specialisms and levels of experience who all support each other, share their perspectives and ideas, and seek to continually develop and improve as individuals and as a practice.

Everything we do is team based. We take Agile seriously; you will work with agile delivery teams that include developers, testers, product owners and a delivery manager - as well as access to infrastructure specialists, UX experts and analysts.

Job Description

As our Senior Data Architect, you’ll be involved in the following right from the word go!
  • Technically lead the data architecture work within an agile team, designing and crafting data architecture solutions, including data modelling, providing advice on the design and implementation of complex data structures.
  • Ensure effective use of data architecture tools and techniques to support teams in understanding data structures and providing appropriate data governance.
  • Identify, develop and prioritise Data Architecture activities to ensure consistency with strategic objectives.
  • Develop and maintain an Enterprise Data Architecture Strategy.
  • Collaborate with others in the architecture community, identifying good practices to adopt, evolve, sharing and developing knowledge and experiences of the practice
  • Share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team and encourage their appropriate utilisation
  • Continually develop your own skills as part of a programme of continuous professional development

It’s not essential to possess 100% of the requirements listed below, some of the skills and experience can often be developed in role.

Our Ideal Senior Data Architect Would Have/be
  • Expert level data modelling, conceptual through to physical, relational, object, analytical and NoSQL
  • Expert level in the creation and maintenance of enterprise data artefacts
  • Highly motivated with experience of selecting and working with data architecture tools
  • Knowledge and experience of data integration, metadata management, interoperability, master data management and data warehousing, complying with agreed data standards
  • Capable of developing and maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships within the organisation and third-party suppliers
  • Experience of developing data strategies, policies and standards
  • TOGAF Practitioner or good TOGAF awareness
  • Highly proficient in at least one data query language
Things you need to know

SC – non reserved

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and although open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area nationals, successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12 consecutive months within the last 5 years.

Process: 
  • Single Stage Interview via TEAMS. You will be contacted to book a suitable slot if you are shortlisted
  • Interview will be with a panel of no more than 3 people and will last approx. 45mins
Onboarding Checks

In the event you are offered a role with us, you will be required to go through Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks which will include Employment and Right to Work Checks. You will also need to apply for SC (Security Checked) Clearance, but you may be able to start your role before gaining this.
