This position will work directly with a core team of DBAs providing technical research and leadership, project planning and implementation of a variety of technical projects, and senior level Cloud DBA support to internal customers. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter capable of thinking with an enterprise perspective while still being flexible enough to keep the business running.Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical leadership for all aspects of database management such as database lifecycle management, monitoring, support, disaster recovery, compliance, and standards.
  • Research new cloud (Oracle, SQL Server) database versions, features, tools, and technologies with an Enterprise perspective to meet customer needs while maintaining a secure database environment.
  • Research, benchmark, and suggest improvements to database support processes, customer experience (CX) improvements, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide 3rd and 4th level cloud (Oracle, SQL Server, etc) database support for complex issues.
  • Participate in and manage database related projects, database security patching audits, and compliance reviews and testing.
  • Develop new and update existing database technology related documentation as needed
  • Coach and communicate information to Caterpillar’s application support teams and peers across the enterprise on cloud technology changes, new features, key projects, and customer experience improvements
  • Participate on customer driven and Division/department projects

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Support of PaaS sql db in azure
  • Backup management for IaaS and PaaS DBs in azure/aws
  • Migrating on-prem SQL Server DBs to cloud
  • YAML & JSON coding skills
  • Working knowledge of deploying Stack using AWS CloudFormation Service
  • Oracle RDS (provisioning and administration of Oracle DBs, performing DBA tasks using rdsadmin utilities etc.)
  • Azure DevOps and integration with AWS (cloud formation?)
  • S3 and integration with RDS (for export/import etc.)
  • Network configuration in AWS, zoning, firewall etc.
  • Understand EFS and EC2 Configurations
  • Awareness of other RDS Offerings (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Database performance management
  • Database hardware configuration
  • Scripting (shell, Perl, emcli)
  • SQL structured query language
  • Linux / UNIX operating systems (RedHat and AIX)
