Applications are invited for doctors with suitable qualifications and experience to work as a full-time senior clinical fellow in the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Princess Royal Hospital, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We have had substantial investment into the service and are looking to appoint two Senior Clinical Fellows to support the growing team. This is fixed term position for 18 months with a view to extend the post for suitable candidates.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a Multidisciplinary team to manage the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at the PRUH and will gain an excellent grounding in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Clinical:The Clinical Fellow will be responsible, together with SpR colleagues, for both inpatient and outpatient work.

Inpatient: The post holder will be expected to attend consultant led specialist inpatient reviews for Diabetes and Endocrinology. They will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and perform personal ward rounds on the patients admitted on call under the supervising consultant(s).

Outpatient: The post holder will do clinics under supervision. The post holder will be supporting the Programmed Investigations Unit by supervising investigations, interpretation of the results under consultant supervision.

No oncall rota is integrated in this post.

Research: The Clinical Fellow will be asked to support the department’s commercial and non-commercial research portfolio. There will be opportunity to join studies as a co-investigator and be involved in peer-reviewed publications.

Job responsibilities

The main duties of the post involve the care of Diabetes and Endocrinology inpatients, attending outpatient Diabetic Foot, Pregnancy and Endocrinology/Thyroid/Bariatric clinics. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Diabetes 7 Endocrinology SpR/IMT3.

The successful applicant will be part of a consultant led team which (in addition to this post) includes one D&E SpR/IMT3, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Podiatrists, CNS’s, Dietitians and Pharmacists. There will be consultant ward rounds of new patients, with SpR led ward rounds of existing patients. There will be opportunity for interested individuals to carry out supervised outpatient clinics, MDTs and attend a number of sub-specialty clinics.

The Appointee will be expected to assess and manage patients with the support of the consultant and using appropriate clinical guidelines. The Appointee will be able to refer patients after discussion with the managing consultant to one of the multiple multi-disciplinary meetings between doctors, nursing staff, and specialist teams.

The Appointee will be expected to support the existing commercial and non-commercial Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity clinical research portfolio.
