We are currently seeking candidates who are up for the challenge of operating in a high-growth, purpose-driven organisation.Job DescriptionA Senior Chemist requires skills in both practical and theoretical synthetic organic chemistry. The role is primarily laboratory based, conducting syntheses on existing products and devising and implementing syntheses for new products. A particular focus is driving improvement to our existing procedures with a view to maximizing yields, increasing reproducibility, scaling and reducing manufacturing costs.Responsibilities:
  • Execution of the Chemistry schedule
  • Timely synthesis and analysis of intermediates and final products
  • Ensure manufacturing instructions reflect up to date practice
  • Accurately follow established synthetic protocols to satisfy customer quality agreements
  • Optimise process efficiency
  • Maximise customer service
  • Compliance to Company Quality Policy and procedure for all activities
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Company EH&S policy, standards and regulations for example COSHH and SDS
  • Participate in relevant Risk Assessment
  • Maintain Lab area and records to audit readiness at all times
  • Maintain complete, legible and timely laboratory records
  • Contribute to improvement/ development/scale up in current Chemistry methodology.
  • Training of and/or buddy for less experienced Chemists
  • Use a variety of analytical methods to monitor reaction processes
  • Problem solving, risk analysis, 5 y’s root cause analysis.
  • Directly impact PD Projects, scale up projects, custom synthesis
  • Troubleshoot existing processes when observations deviate from the known procedure
  • Improve existing processes to reduce cost and increase reliability, purity, and safety
  • Lead Risk Assessment
  • Manage projects from a technical perspective, such as custom/NPD/continual improvement
  • Review and approval of updates to existing manufacturing instructions.
  • Contribute to the development of new products manufacturing instructions
  • Ensure the completion of costing files and timesheets for custom synthesis projects
  • Supervise, mentor less experienced chemists
  • Approve / sign off skill performance competency
  • Perform regular competency skills audit
  • Effectively plan projects to include timelines, cost, resources, return of investment and objectives
  • Contribute to continually meet Turnaround Time (TAT) goals
  • Route validation for custom synthesis projects
  • Delivery of custom synthesis projects
  • Develop understanding of all major chemistry categories (nucleosides, phosphoramidites, CPGs) in order to provide synthesis support
  • May mentor or coach junior chemists
Technical skills
  • Knowledge and experience in Synthetic organic chemistry, in all key manufacturing processes at all scales
1.1. Experience with standard chemistry laboratory techniques
  • Analysis by TLC, HPLC, LCMS, NMR
  • Experience with maintaining an accurate laboratory record
  • Knowledge of ChemDraw preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Confidently and actively participate in internal discussions such as troubleshooting, method development, custom synthesis etc
  • Experience in process improvement projects,
  • Ability to write white papers/posters for use as technical marketing data
  • Demonstratable knowledge of Oligo Synthesis with respect to NAC products and the application of the modified Oligos
  • Costings relating to projects
  • Leading (cross-functional) project teams
  • Establishing strategy for complex projects
QualificationsMaster’s degree or Ph.
