What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Cable Project Engineer to join our Engineering Team.

The Key Duties & Responsibilities Will Be
  • Ensuring high-quality engineering solutions are in place by reviewing or approving designs through the full project lifecycle from development through to the execution phases. Acting as a focal point to promote best practice within cable engineering through the development of improvement plans, new processes and implementing lessons learned
  • Supervising (but not line managing) and directing engineering within the cable engineering discipline and driving decision making and supporting projects through peer review of key issues.
  • Liaising with the Cable Technical Authority to identify specification improvement opportunities and implementation of new technology options
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with Engineering and Project Managers to ensure that engineering and quality risks are identified and understood, and projects are successfully delivered
  • Promoting and managing safety within assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the engineering issues are compliant with relevant company, HSE and industry regulations
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Experience working on the Transmission Network with extensive knowledge of High Voltage Cables (132 kV - 400 kV) and the capability to fulfil the role as a cabling expert in a project environment
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of technically complex Transmission cable projects and confidence in your ability to technically assess issues and critically review a range of technical solutions. Experience in the use of CYMCAP software for cable rating calculations is desirable
  • A thorough technical understanding of relevant legislation and its implications for Transmission network management for both assets and projects, including CDM & ESQCR
  • The ability to problem-solve and develop structured risk-based solutions to address key issues and effective communication skills, particularly in articulating complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management
  • Degree qualified in Electrical or another relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards this status.
