Job Description:

GL Hearn is recruiting for a Senior Business Rates administrator to join its Rate Payment Management team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing administration assistance in the operational management of a large complex client portfolio or multiple smaller portfolios under guidance from a senior colleague.
  • Deputising for the Business Rate Manager for short periods of absence.
  • Solely managing a smaller client portfolio under guidance from management/Client Director, where opportunity arises.
  • Verification of rates bills issued by billing authorities against data held in GLHIMS in respect of properties throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Resolving queries where rates bills are not verified, which may involve assistance from a senior colleague.
  • Liaising with billing authorities to correct matters relating to occupational changes, changes to the rating list and exemptions and reliefs.
  • Ensuring all portfolio movement is actioned appropriately.

What we’re looking for:

  • An understanding of business rate legislation and significant case law.
  • Able to compare rate demands etc to GLHIMS for verification and, where demands do not match GLHIMS, able to understand why this is the case.
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealings with clients and colleagues and able to present themselves well in meetings.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Proficient in the use of desktop software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • An ability to recognise opportunities and when it is appropriate to refer to colleagues to progress opportunities for rate savings for clients
