SLR has a fantastic opportunity for a Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to join its busy Geotechnical and Mine Waste Engineering team. The successful applicant will be engaged in technical project work, project management, as well as leadership for junior members of the team.

SLR’s Engineering team boasts a wealth of expertise across the European region (and wider global business) within diverse sectors including mining, waste, power, infrastructure, and the built environment. This position provides an exciting opportunity to join a diverse team of earth science specialists, comprising mine waste engineers, geotechnical engineers, geologists, hydrotechnical engineers, process engineers, hydrogeologists and land quality specialists in a leading multinational consultancy and to take an active role in the future growth and development of our business in the mining and minerals, infrastructure and power sectors. The appointee would ideally be based at one of our existing offices in Nottingham, although for the right candidate, SLR are flexible to the location of this role across any of our UK offices.

What you will do:

If successful, you will join a busy Mine Waste and Geotechnical Engineering team with a focus on investigation, engineering design, appraisal, review, construction management and monitoring of tailing dams, mine waste facilities, containment facilities and related mine infrastructure. The role will also give you the opportunity to work closely with Clients from concept design through to the construction, commissioning and operational stages of the project lifecycle. You will work closely with colleagues in the Geotechnical and Mine Waste Team, as well as collaborating with members of other technical disciplines throughout SLR. You will also take an active role in developing new business and experience in this area will be a distinct advantage.
The nature of the work involved means that the role will involve travel to project sites both within the UK and to various international project locations. You will be communicating your knowledge with clients, colleagues and the wider industry through written reports and orally at meetings and presentations.

What you will need:

If you are interested, we would love to hear from you. In order to succeed, we’d envisage that you would be able to demonstrate:
  • Relevant first degree and post graduate qualification (Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar);
  • Chartered Member of a relevant professional institution or eligible to register as a Chartered Engineer in the UK,
  • A background in geotechnical design and analysis, with a focus on dams, embankments and slopes.
  • Project Management experience of tailing dams, mine waste facilities, containment facilities and mine infrastructure, involving design, analysis, investigation, review, construction management and dam safety monitoring.
  • Experience of working closely with clients from concept design through to construction, commissioning and operational stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and work continually to develop business.
  • Full current driving licence valid in the UK
