SEND Supported embraces difference and works flexibly and creatively to develop personalised approaches to learning. We are committed to collaborating with colleagues from education, health and social care, and to working in partnership with young people, their families and educational settings to achieve the best outcomes for those young people.

What is the role?

You may attend Early Help meetings and progress reviews, create and/or deliver personalised interventions and deliver training to teaching staff.

As an Education Consultant you will be expected to:

  • Work across a range of schools in the region and travel between sites.
  • Carry out direct work with the young person to establish their views and wishes.
  • Undertake a range of informal assessments which may include observations of the young person, structured conversation with the young person, teaching staff and families.
  • Provide settings with agreed written reports electronically within 10 working days of completion of the work.
  • Provide advice on creating SEND friendly learning environments.
  • Attend meetings with schools and families to plan provision and where appropriate provide guidance around transition from primary school to secondary school.
  • Attend termly and annual reviews as requested by the school.
  • Provide training for teachers and teaching assistants around the delivery of specific interventions or to raise awareness and understanding of SEND and its impact on learning.
  • Attend half termly SEND Supported team meetings, Safeguarding training and continuing CPD opportunities which will enhance your practice.

Person Specification:

  • Qualified teacher status - this role is not suitable for early career teachers (ECT).
  • An additional post graduate qualification (or commitment to undertake a suitable qualification) and extensive experience of working in SEND.
  • Clear commitment to the values of SEND Supported, demonstrating through their practice a caring, passionate, inclusive, innovative and flexible ‘can do’ approach.
  • Proven ability to work independently, within a team and with a range of colleagues across educational settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check once the position has been offered and accepted.
  • Good administrative skills.

What you can expect in your role as an Education Consultant with SEND Supported:

  • You will join a highly motivated, vibrant, and friendly team who are dedicated to improving the outcomes for all children.
  • You will be provided with named school contacts for planning your work, a SEND Supported email account and access to a wide range of resources on SharePoint.
