The Royal Agricultural University “RAU” has been at the forefront of agricultural education for over 175 years and is globally renowned for its links with industry and courses that are designed to meet the demands of the changing land-based sector.

We are seeking reliable and enthusiastic individuals to join our Security & Welfare Team. You will have a flexible approach, be able to act on own initiative and to work alone. Together with a team of security welfare officers, you will provide a reassuring, supportive and welcoming presence delivering the highest level of customer service and satisfaction. Protect and care for University’s students, staff, estate and buildings at all times.

The role is strongly customer focussed and you must demonstrate an ability to perform well within a team and also be able to demonstrate the use of initiative whilst working alone when dealing with emergencies, medical first aid response, alarm activations and many other reported incidents.

This is a demanding and varied role. The post holder will be expected to deal with student welfare issues and possess the ability to deal calmly and effectively with those who require our help and support. It is therefore desirable that candidates be trained in Mental First Aid at Work and be in possession of a First Aid qualification, however, training will be given to successful candidates if required.

Previous experience in working as a Security Officer is essential and candidates will possess a strong knowledge of security related issues and be capable of reacting to and deterring crime and disorder, whilst maintaining a calm approach at all times.

The candidate will be competent in basic computer skills, as the role will include report writing, statements and communication with other stakeholders as appropriate.

As part of the role and where appropriate, the successful candidate may be required to carry out minor maintenance tasks if required and to also assist the Campus Services Manager to dismantle events to prepare for new students and conference guests. Training will be given.

The post holder will ideally hold a SIA Door Supervision/Close Protection licence and a valid First Aid qualification. The appointment will be made subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance being obtained.

A good understanding of Health and Safety is essential and previous experience in dealing with welfare and support would be advantageous.

The RAU is set in beautiful surroundings and offers a range of Staff Benefits including a 35-hour working week, a generous 30 days annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time posts), pension scheme, free and guaranteed parking on campus and free shuttle bus from campus to Cirencester town centre, discounted catering facilities, discounted onsite gym, free library services, employee assistance programme, occupational health and counselling services, cycle to work scheme and staff development opportunities.
