Department: Production
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Hours: 38 Hours (Nights Monday to Thursday (finishing Friday morning) 10pm – 8.00am which equates to 38 hours per week after breaks.


Role

To ensure that planned production is achieved throughout the twenty four hour cycle to agreed standards.

Oversee the performance of the designated production department, ensuring operations at the optimum efficiency and maintenance of specified standards of food safety, quality, legality, and Health & Safety.

Together with the Operations Manager, establish and implement a plan for continuous improvement within the department, and measure the effectiveness of improvements against set KPI’s and OEE.

Responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • To ensure that the weekly production plan is arranged in the most effective sequence.
  • To monitor, control and record planned versus actual performance, evaluating material and labour variances, and product quality and product composition.
  • To ensure that costed staffing levels are achieved and maintained.
  • To reconcile clocked hours versus worked hours to monitor and control absence.
  • To embrace the learning culture, empowering people to develop within the team, ensure that adequate training and development is provided.
  • Maintain agreed standards of conduct and discipline within the team, challenge, investigate, and if necessary discipline individuals whenever necessary.
  • Identify skills shortages within the staff group, working with the HR Manager, training department, and recruitment and labour controller to establish the requirement for training existing staff, and / or recruiting new skill intake.
  • To establish, agree and monitor performance improvement plans, proposing continuous improvement methods taking into consideration, people development, environmental and machinery development, procedures, and process improvements.
  • To understand, control and report on the financial aspects of product and departmental costs.
  • To verify that cleaning procedures are accurate, relevant, and up to date; ensuring cleaning within the department is to the highest standard.
  • Collaboratively work with other departments, such as engineering and hygiene, to improve section performance and efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with NPD to organise trials and product launches successfully.
  • To assess all Risk Assessments associated to the department ensuring that they are covering all machinery, activities, and locations within the department.
  • To conduct accident investigations, record the findings and manage the resulting actions.
  • To ensure all employees are adhering to personal hygiene policies.
  • To regularly review departmental SOPs and cleaning schedules and update as necessary.
  • To audit your own / or other departments, to improve the awareness and knowledge of personnel in the department.
  • To present the department to visitors and auditors as and when requested.
  • When necessary, provide cover in the absence of the Senior Production Manager.
  • Lead daily communications with the team regarding performance against set KPIs and objectives.
  • Lead, manage, motivate and coach shift leaders / key operators / operators for continuous personal development.
