In the heart of rural Teesdale, the GSK site at Barnard Castle is a key member of the Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) organisation producing some of the world’s leading dermatological, sterile, inhaled and oral medicines for a wide range of diseases including MRSA, leukaemia and HIV.

To help enable us to strengthen and increase capacity across the site, we are looking for a Senior Technical Officers to join the Sterility Assurance Unit (SAU) team on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract/secondment supporting the introduction and ongoing validation of sterile processes and equipment at GSK Barnard Castle site.

The job role of Senior Technical Officer requires extensive awareness of Pharmaceutical Regulatory Guidelines (FDA, MHRA, EN285, etc) and GSK procedures with a high level of experience in the thermometric and biological validation of sterilisation processes and thermometric validation of control environments.

Strong completion of documentation and computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc is desired and the candidate must demonstrate good interpersonal, team working and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a comprehensive and varied range of thermal and requalification testing on autoclaves, CIP/SIP systems, depyrogenation equipment and controlled environments.
  • Working to current company and regulatory GxP and safety standards
  • High attention to detail for both documentation and on the job activities
  • Perform equipment calibration and qualification studies;
  • Problem solving/root cause analysis & propose effective solutions;
  • Generation of data packs including qualification printouts and technical reports;
  • Operate as a member of cross functional project team for development of equipment and processes;
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management & external contacts;
  • Must be able to work independently but also must be able to work with other departments
  • Constructively challenge ways of working & seek improvement initiatives within team/department/process streams;
  • Working without local supervision across all areas of site;
  • Input into the creation and adherence to the work schedule;
  • Shift working to support the needs of the business;
