Purpose of the job:

Ryecroft Primary Academy are looking to appoint a Safeguarding, Attendance and Behaviour Officer to join our academy as soon as possible.
The role will involve taking a lead role in providing a high quality and effective safeguarding and pastoral support across the academy, maintaining accurate records and working with staff, pupils, parents and external agencies to ensure appropriate plans and strategies are in place to support pupils and their families.
To take a lead role in the administration of student attendance via SIMS, ‘first day’ response and home visits to improve attendance across the academy; with a particular focus on the most disadvantaged. To produce attendance charts and statistics to evidence for penalty fines/court cases in collaboration with the EWO.
To provide a positive image of the academy in all dealings with parents, visitors and outside agencies.

The academy is a smaller than average primary school catering for pupils from our 2-year old provision and our Early Years Foundation Stage, through Key Stage 1 and into Key Stage 2. There are currently 281 pupils on roll, including 24 part time Nursery pupils and 11 part time 2-year-olds.
The school is situated in the community of Holmewood Bradford.

Responsibilities:

Main Duties and Responsibilities: *

Safeguarding: *

  • To work closely with the Deep Support Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead to support safeguarding throughout the academy;
  • To support the Deep Support Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead to record, respond to and monitor incidents and concerns throughout the academy;
  • To be aware of and comply with academy and local authority safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures;
  • To attend: Multi-agency meetings

Multi-agency Risk Assessment Conference

Child Protection Meetings
Common Assessment Framework Meetings;

  • To distribute Pupil Information Sheets or other relevant documentation to staff prior to meetings and collate in preparation for the meetings;
  • To produce and distribute reports to relevant agencies, following approval from Deep Support Lead, Designated Safeguarding Lead or other senior leaders;
  • To invoke and participate in child protection procedures as part of the Child protection team, as appropriate, including making education social work contributions to child protection plans; to provide child protection advice, information and support to school staff.
  • Liaise with social workers and other external agencies as appropriate;
  • Liaise and feedback to senior leaders and EAB members as appropriate;
  • To be a point of contact for staff and parents;
  • To ensure child protection records are transferred to receiving schools and records of transfer are maintained;
  • To undertake regular and relevant training;
  • To attend and contribute to Senior Leadership meetings as appropriate;

Attendance: *

  • To be aware of and comply with academy policy and procedures for attendance;
  • To work closely with admin staff to ensure pupil attendance is entered on SIMS at the beginning of each session in a timely manner;
  • To monitor absences each day and ensure staff to identify reasons for children’s non-attendance through ‘first-day’ response;
  • To ensure registration codes are amended and notes added following reasons for non-attendance;
  • To support the Deep Support Lead with attendance monitoring and reports as required;
  • To collate and update general data and persistent absence figures and complete returns on a half termly basis for the Vice Principal / Deep Support Lead
  • To support all attendance incentives provided by the academy and identify pupils eligible for attendance certificates to promote good attendance and recognise improvements in attendance;
  • To co-ordinate and undertake home visits with additional support staff as required;
  • To attend meetings with the EWO to discuss pupils with poor attendance and persistent absentees (or those at risk of becoming a persistent absentee) and identify pupils who should be referred to the local authority for court proceedings or penalty fines;
  • To produce half termly accurate statistical evidence for penalty fines and court cases;
  • To produce letters and correspondence as required;
  • To liaise with and support parents of children with poor attendance to ensure attendance improves;
  • To attend and contribute to Senior Leadership meetings as appropriate;

Behaviour: *

  • To be aware of and comply with academy policy and procedures for behaviour;
  • To be the academy’s lead member of staff for behaviour;
  • To monitor and record behaviour incidents throughout the academy;
  • To work closely with the Deep Support Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead when appropriate;
  • To develop individual behaviour strategies and plans, tailoring interventions alongside parents, teaching staff and pastoral colleagues
  • To monitor the impact of behavioural plans and tailored interventions and feedback to pupils and key members of staff
  • To support staff to set up and to run bespoke interventions for individuals or groups deemed to be in need of support;
  • To work in a proactive way to encourage early de-escalation and support other staff to do the same;
  • To co-ordinate daily/weekly drop ins for key children in need of additional support, ensuring emotional wellbeing staff work alongside them in their own class or outside of the class where appropriate;
  • To act as children’s pastoral advocate and to facilitate positive partnerships between home, school, community and Local Authority, by support, liaison and negotiation; and where conflict arises to give paramount consideration to the interests of the child;
  • To monitor playtimes and lunchtimes, including staffing, to ensure these times are happy and harmonious;
  • To be the academy’s point of contact for any issues around behaviour during the academy day and to swiftly and effectively resolve these issues in a timely manner in order to minimise any lost learning time;
  • To communicate effectively with parents/carers though daily contact, formal meetings and home visits;
  • To support all behaviour incentives provided by the academy and identify pupils eligible for certificates or rewards to promote good behaviour and recognise improvements in behaviour;
  • To administer appropriate sanctions in line with academy policy;
  • Liaise and feedback to senior leaders and EAB members as appropriate;
  • To attend and contribute to Senior Leadership meetings as appropriate

  • To ensure strict confidentiality in all areas of work.
  • To work and process personal and sensitive information in accordance with Data Protection Act 2018 including the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018.
  • To ensure work is conducted in a way that protects the safety and security of information (e.g. strong passwords, reporting breaches, securing paper records, securely disposing of records).

  • To understand and comply with the statutory guidance regarding safeguarding of children, ensuring the safeguarding and promotion of children’s welfare at all times, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately.
  • To comply with the Trust and academy’s policies and procedures at all times.

To undertake other reasonable duties (with competence and experience) as requested, in accordance with the changing needs of the organisation.
