We are well on our way to achieving our ambition to build a world that’s more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.We seek an experienced and driven Project Engineer to join our team to ensure the department’s continued success.Join us on our journey to net zero and help us power change.Base Location: Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow or PerthSalary:£55,573 - £63,643 dependant on experience + operational response allowance + company car / cash allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern:Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options availableWhat is the Role?Real-Time Systems Delivery (RTSD) Team is responsible for the project delivery, design, installation, testing and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems, Operational Communications and SCADA field systems that SSEN use to operate our primary and secondary assets across multiple locations across the Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) licensed area.As Design Engineer in the team, you will play a pivotal role in taking business and customer requests for operational communication and SCADA systems and work closely with them to design and implement solutions that meet the purpose and vision set out in the overall ED2 project portfolio.You will work closely as a key stakeholder with SSEN Project Managers, OT standards Engineers and other SSEN technical teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.Your key responsibilities will be as follows.- Design and develop Operational Communication and SCADA field systems to monitor and control SSEN’s primary and secondary assets that meet the scope of work requested and in line with the business need.
- Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) of the field systems you design for implementation.
- As a key stakeholder in ED2 projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Suppliers, Contractors, Engineers, and Technicians, to ensure the delivery of the best solution to meet strategic needs and operational efficiency.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) technical support to the broader business and key stakeholders during the installation and operation of all field systems.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends involving Operational Communications and SCADA systems and make recommendations for their adoption where it fits business needs and customer requirements.
- Degree level (or equivalent experience) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or another related discipline and relevant experience.
- Project Management qualifications such as APM PMQ or Prince 2 would be advantageous but optional.
- Strong knowledge of Industrial Control Systems, PLCs, and RTUs in the utility sector.
- Strong knowledge of communications protocols and operational communication methods in the utility sector.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- The role requires regular travel to substations, sites and other SSE offices, so a full driving license is essential.
