Our investment business unit is a key component of our consulting services and firmly established as a UK market leader. We currently advise on over ~ £290 billion of assets for a diverse client base which spans corporate and trustee bodies across a wide variety of business and industry sectors, as well as local government pension schemes and other public sector clients. Responsible Investment (RI) is an ongoing component of the advice we deliver to our clients. RI considerations are relevant in all aspects of our advice and, on occasion, require specialist skills and knowledge to ensure that our advice is effectively delivered.

The role of the RI consultant is to act as a source of expertise on RI issues for both internal and external audiences; to contribute to the development of intellectual capital within the RI arena, working within our broader research team, and to support the evolution of the RI proposition. It is expected that this role will encompass the following areas of activity:

Key responsibilities will include:
Support the development and delivery of the RI proposition in accordance with the RI business plan;

Consulting with clients as a specialist on the need for/development of/implementation of solutions related to the RI proposition. This will include engagement with consultants, the provision of training and expert input and attendance at client meetings;

Research of appropriate investment solutions and the development of associated materials to allow consultants to advise effectively on RI matters;

Research of and/or contribution to the development of appropriate analytical tools to allow consultants and/or clients to understand exposure to RI risks and communicate such risks to clients;

Work with asset class researchers to understand and opine on manager approaches to the integration of RI practices;

Engage with asset managers and other providers on the execution of their stewardship capabilities and demand accountability;

Development of consulting collateral (papers, reports, presentational material) to support engagement with clients.

Undertake research to develop supporting evidence in support of client and manager solutions;

Provide insightful manager and market commentary and recommendations that and add value;

Maintain a current understanding of market and legislative developments within the RI arena;

Develop and maintain professional client relationships

Be proactive in sharing new ideas and approaches across the Investment business

Contribute to the development of Hymans position and messaging around RI. This may include internal and external advocacy, writing articles, press comments and conference/seminar participation;

Dissemination of knowledge to both internal and external audiences through training sessions, blog posts, articles etc.

Support new business development by providing subject matter expert input to tender activity. This may also involve presenting to prospective clients;

Assisting in budgeting and planning for investment research projects

Adhering to the firm’s Information Security standards, policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Experience:
Practical knowledge and experience of consulting/research on responsible investment/stewardship issues

Qualified FFA/FIA or CFA preferred or comparable qualification or equivalent experience

A solid understanding of the UK pensions industry and/or institutional investment markets.

Ability to articulate ideas and develop them into tangible solutions.

Established report writing skills

Proven project management experience and multi-tasking ability

Ability to coach and develop other professionals.

Ability to consult with clients and present well at client and manager meetings

First class relationship building and communication skills

Excellent IT skills

Personal characteristics:
First class interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated in the ability to consult and influence successfully.

Flexible, pro-active and innovative approach to client solutions.

A team player with a motivational, hands-on approach.

Degree of flexibility to travel to clients and other Hymans Robertson offices (when travel for work is safely resumed)

Committed to further study and professional development (either Actuarial exams or CFA) is an advantage

Excellent attention to detail

Excellent time management and planning skills, for both self and team
