The role of Operational Response Engineer (ORE) is an essential one as you will be the first point of call for gas escapes / investigations / maintenance and replacements. Your role really does make a difference to our customers, as you will be responsible for ensuring emergencies and works are managed in a speedily and safe manner.

Operating in the industry that we do, safety is paramount and you will make this your first priority as you quickly assess the situation and make the right decisions.

You will need to hold your CCN1 / CESP1 or CMA1 certificate, be Gas Safe registered and hold a full UK driving licence.

Please remember these are Response roles and as such will require you to work unsocial hours and weekends. Keeping this in mind, please be aware and consider the shift patterns, on call and weekend working prior to completing your application.

Role Duties
  • Co-ordinate work for teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system. Receive instructions and requests, plan and organise resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently.
  • Lay, connect, disconnect, commission, decommission and maintain pipework, associated plant and equipment; this may involve complex work and/or specialist knowledge.
  • Respond to emergencies, participate in standby and undertake testing, survey, detection and diagnostic work which may be of a complex nature, reporting results, ensuring safety and taking appropriate action in order to maintain the transportation system and associated equipment.
  • Work Towards Totex - Carry out and ensure that excavation, backfill, reinstatement and repair work is carried out to the required standards including the removal of surplus/waste material.
  • Provide appropriate training, specialist advice, support and guidance to teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system.
  • Co-ordinate and provide advice, guidance and support for 3rd parties operating on or adjacent to the gas transportation system.
  • Working Towards Totex- Gather information, prepare and write reports which may include participation in the preparation of technical information and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Work within and promote the philosophy of team working and development across all NGN activities to achieve business objectives improve commercial performance and deliver excellent customer experience.

Skills And Experience
  • You are flexible to start as early as Sep 2021 (start date will be confirmed) (essential)
  • You can ensure you are available for the 4-week period after your start date so that you are able to complete your training with 100% attendance (essential)
  • Have eligibility to work in the UK (essential)
  • You are willing to work the variable shift patterns and participate in an out of hours’ standby rota (essential)
  • Possession of a current Driving Licence (essential)
  • Experience of managing others (desirable)
  • Ability to independently and effectively communicate with colleagues, customers and members of the public (essential)
  • A good level of physical fitness to meet a demanding role (essential)
  • Ability to work with computers (keyboard skills) (essential)
  • Experience of working within a customer, people and team orientated environment (essential)
  • Experience of working within a safety focussed environment (essential)
  • Gas Safety Registration (essential)

  • £33,212 Per annum
  • 41.25 hours per week on a variable work pattern including standby
  • 25 days holiday per year, plus 8 days bank holiday, plus 2 half days (Christmas Eve and New Years Eve)
