Hitachi is an innovation-driven company with more than a century of customer trust, aiming to develop new technologies to contribute to social innovation and sustainable growth. To achieve this agenda, we are pleased to announce an opening for a permanent researcher to join our newly founded sustainability and biosensing team at the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory where we collaborate closely with academics from the University of Cambridge – especially the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology – to explore novel techniques in cell-free enzymatic technologies.

The ideal candidate:

  • Must have a PhD in biotechnology, biology, chemistry, or a related field,

  • Will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience after their PhD working with cell-free biology techniques either in a company R&D or as a post-doctoral researcher in an academic environment,

  • Must have experience doing experimental lab work with cell-free systems, especially protein and gene engineering,

  • Have an academic track record of excellent scientific achievements in the field,

  • Must be willing to both conduct excellent research towards academic publications as well as making progress towards finding innovative solutions and achieving the commercial goals of the company.

In their day-to-day research the candidate will conduct experimental research on cell-free technology in close collaboration with the local Hitachi Cambridge team and academic partners at the University of Cambridge. The offered research position will require high social skills working in an interdisciplinary team of academically and commercially oriented biologists, chemists, and physicists. Willingness to actively engage with our wider R&D group and project partners from Japan in particular, will further require high intercultural competences and communication skills, which will be vital for the day-to-day work.
