Job content

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual interested in sensory neuroscience to join the Hearing Research group to support the group led by Professor Walter Marcotti at the University of Sheffield.

You will oversee the efficient daily operation of Prof Marcotti’s laboratory and provide research support for specific activities, including performing surgical procedures on mice, overseeing the breeding of transgenic animals and using programming skills for data analysis. The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team with several Research Associates and PhD students is also essential.

You will join a vibrant group of basic scientists pursuing a spectrum of discovery and translational research in hearing and deafness. You will have the opportunity to develop your own skills in a variety of techniques and be able to interact with scientific collaborators around the world. The post will require a flexible approach due to the need to work across a variety of experimental approaches.

You should have a good Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline, experience of working in a laboratory and experience of animal handling.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
