Summary Of Job Purpose And Principal Duties

The Swamy Lab (https://www.ppu.mrc.ac.uk/research/principal-investigator/mahima-swamy)at the MRC PPU, University of Dundee studies how intestinal intraepitheliallymphocytes regulate intestinal homeostasis and protect against infection andIBD. We are looking for a research technician to performexperiments and contribute to different projects in the lab. This is afull-time role for 1 year only due to limited funding and will suit someonelooking to gain extra skills before continuing in their career.

The research technician will serve an integral function within the lab to perform experiments, generate reagents or establish methods and ensure smooth operation of day-to-day activities in the lab. The lab work will involve investigations of how intestinal immune cell respond to different stimuli in culture. Intestinal lymphocytes contribute to protection against gut infections, but also to inflammatory bowel diseases, and we are exploring how these cells contribute at a molecular level. You will also be involved in training new recruits to the lab. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven, keen to gain research experience, and enjoy organization and problem solving.

Essential

Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • A first class undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or related biology degree
  • General understanding of immunology and cell signalling
  • Experience with primary cell culture
  • Experience with basic protein techniques: SDS-PAGE, western blotting
  • Computer literate
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot experiments
  • Efficient and organised with meticulous record keeping skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent judgement skills
  • Ability to work well as a team or independently.

This project will be performed in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU), based within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee.
