Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the research group of Prof Nick Evans, Prof Richard Oreffo and Dr Janos Kanczler to develop methods for noninvasive drug delivery in bone fracture using ultrasound-responsive agents.

In your role as a Postdoctoral Research Associate you will develop acoustic bubbles that oscillate energetically when excited by ultrasound waves. You will determine the acoustic parameters necessary to induce cavitation in in vivo models of bone fracture.

This MRC-funded project is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the group of Prof Eleanor Stride at the University of Oxford. You will work in a vibrant, multidisciplinary team based in the Faculties of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southampton, but will also work with colleagues based in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford.

You will have a PhD and with direct experience in in vivo models of disease or injury, ideally with a background in bone biology. Previous experience in bioengineering and biomedical acoustics is desirable but not essential. You should be a highly motivated candidate, capable of independently designing experiments, innovating, and contributing intellectually to the direction of the project. Evidence of publishing quality peer-reviewed research papers would also be advantageous.

Informal inquiries may be directed to Prof Evans (n.d.evans@soton.ac.uk).

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who hold a PhD or equivalent qualification, or in the case of candidates who already have at least one relevant research paper accepted for publication, who have submitted a PhD thesis for the examination of the degree of PhD and are preparing for an examination by viva. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon award of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title ofSenior Research Assistantwill be given.
