Research Ethics Committee Manager


This is an exciting and rare opportunity to work within the West of Scotland Research Ethics Service which oversees four research ethics committees reviewing new clinical research applications within the NHS and forms part of a UK national ethics service. This position is likely to appeal to anyone who has an interest in clinical research and enjoys working to a high standard of detail and excellence. The primary responsibilities of the post are the coordination of an NHS Research Ethics Committee (REC) to cover all duties required for the successful running of the service within the West of Scotland. The post holder will have a good understanding of research and ethical review processes, knowledge of the EU Clinical Trials Directive and insight into the clinical trial review processes operating within the NHS.

A first level degree qualification or equivalent, in a relevant subject, as well as excellent organisational and communication skills are essential. The post holder is required to process and interpret complex information, translating it into an appropriate format for lay users. A diplomatic and tactful approach to collegiate working at all levels is essential to enable the post holder to successfully negotiate with and influence others.


The post holder should be self-motivated, confident, pro-active and innovative, with the ability to work independently to tight deadlines. They must have a flexible working approach and be able to adapt to change.


The post-holder will be responsible for fulfilling self-development requirements and be able to deliver appropriate advice to all levels of applicants to enable the efficient passage of applications through the approvals process.


Shift pattern is; Regular Office hours Mon-Frid
