The overall aim for this research programme is to create a value analysis toolkit to assist manufacturing companies respond and adapt to change (e.g. materials and/or labour shortages, new technology). Ultimately, we wish to help the sector identify optimal, through life value and take action which is responsive, sustainable, adaptable and resilient.

Manufacturing is an increasingly important area for the UK Government. The Responsive Manufacturing: Maximising Value Through Life project is funded under the EPSRC Manufacturing the Future research theme which amounts to approximately £330 million (~6% of the whole EPSRC portfolio).

This is an industry led project. You will work closely with our four partners; The Manufacturing Technology Centre Ltd, ARES Software UK Ltd, Arup and Quick Release (Automotive) Ltd who will provide the industrial case studies which will be used for the initial research activities.

The research will focus on mapping the current state of the manufacturing systems being analysed, using the data gathered from the case studies to create a proof-of-concept value modelling tool, and validating the conceptual model.

The researcher will be encouraged and supported to publish papers in top rated journals, and to widely disseminate the outputs of their research through academic and industry conference and workshops etc. Any necessary training and opportunities to assist them in their research and future career progression will be provided.

We are looking for candidates with an understanding of analysing and modelling systems and/or experience of value identifying techniques e.g. value stream mapping. We believe this role would be suitable to applicants from a number of disciplines including engineering, economic, environmental science etc.
