For some people, support work is something they’d love to do but other commitments make it difficult. That’s where the role of a Relief Support Worker comes in! It gives you the flexibility to choose the shifts you want to do, based on your availability and the needs of the service.
We support 5 people in our Ringwood service who are aged between 35 - 66 who have learning disabilities . We enable them to live as independently as possible and support with tasks such as medication, meal preparation, finance support, low level personal care and accessing the community.
What does a Relief Support Worker do?
As a Relief Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will enormously contribute to the people we support, living a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life.
Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Supporting people to live independently - budget management, paying bills, house work, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals. Excellent communication skills/relationship building - supporting the person to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships. Community & Social Inclusion- Supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and Social events to promote life skills and individuality.
No two days will be the same and having a passion for communication would be a huge advantage. As it is important that you are able to find creative ways to engage with the people you will be supporting to help to remove barriers and empower the individual’s to learn new skills. Each individual has their own personality, hobbies and interests that they enjoy, these include singing, swimming, shopping, spending time in the garden, cooking and watching films.
The people you will be supporting also love to be "out and about" on day trips out, so you could be enjoying nice lunch trips out, trips to the cinema, feeding the ducks at the park, museums, bus trips, and many more...
Shifts vary between 07.00 - 22.00 and we also have sleep in shifts available (sleep in’s are paid in line with National Minimum Wage).
