West Midlands Metro is the region’s popular and growing tram network, operated by Midland Metro Limited (MML). MML is owned by the West Midlands Combined Authority. It is an inspiring time for MML as the Combined Authority delivers a £1.3 billion investment plan set to significantly expand the tram network, bringing even greater connectivity to people, places and business.

The Role

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Reliability Technician to provide a safe, effective, efficient and professional tram maintenance, repair and overhaul service for the West Midlands Metro rolling stock assets. You will work as part of a team on a 24/7 shift roster.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Provide great customer service to the West Midlands’ travelling public through working to ensure maximum availability of the tram fleet
  • Performing routine and corrective maintenance on the trams, working on systems incorporating mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, controlled by computer software
  • Ensuring compliance with company and industry safety procedures
  • Carry out root cause analysis of failures ensuring any lessons learned are fed back to improve the reliability of the fleet
  • Support delivery of change and configuration management on the tram fleets
  • Recording all work activity and support the testing, commissioning and acceptance of new trams
  • Supporting the Rolling Stock Maintenance Management Team in the delivery of the production plan

You will also be required to undertake training and competence assessments as appropriate to achieve MML specific and national qualifications.

What You’ll Need
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering based NVQ level 3 qualification or higher, or time served apprenticeship in mechanical and electrical disciplines
  • Experience in undertaking preventative and corrective maintenance on high value safety critical equipment
  • Experience in fault finding, root cause analysis and diagnosing faults in complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Experience in the use of computer based diagnostic and electrical testing equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings
