Rehabilitation Trainer

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Rehabilitation Trainer to assist with the behavioural and welfare assessments of dogs in our Rehoming Centre.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone experienced in training a variety of dogs (breeds, ages and temperaments) and with a strong understanding of positive reinforcement training techniques.

About this job:

As a Rehabilitation Trainer you’ll:

• Work closely with the management/behaviour teams to implement management, training and behaviour modification programmes for dogs. These are to be progressive and include what is most important to the individual dog to prepare them for their forever home.
• Supervise other Canine Carers in ensuring the optimal welfare of dogs in the centre.
• Keep accurate records of assessments, training programmes and the progress of dogs in training.
• Support members of the public with individual dogs’ training programmes, one to one with potential owners, pre-adoption talk and general rehoming when required.

About you:

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of dog behaviour, including the ability to read canine body language, facial expressions and vocalisations, and understand how these relate to the emotional state of dogs. An excellent communicator you’ll be just as comfortable liaising with potential adopters and customers and will be highly organised with the ability to adopt methodical approaches to working practices and record detailed information. You should also be committed to the aims and objectives of Dogs Trust.

Come rain or shine, our team are out in all weathers to make sure the dogs have the best possible life. Dealing with thousands of visitors each month, our rehoming centres are the face of Dogs Trust, and we pride ourselves on our staff providing the very best in customer service.

What you need to know:

A full, manual driving licence is also essential, as driving will be a part of the role. Working times are Monday to Sunday on a rota basis, 8:30am-5:30pm (subject to change and will be discussed during interview).
